The matching hypothesis is a popular psychological theory proposed by Erving Goffman in 1952 to attempt
to explain why people become attracted to their partners. It proposes that people are more likely to form long standing relationships with those who are equally as physically attractive as they are, be it in the arenas of romance or friendship.
